IN-DEPTH REVIEW

CARD DESIGN

Lovely artwork inspired by manga style, the quality of the details is awesome, you just need to look at the dragon’s face or the fire coming from the summoner’s hand. I would say it introduces you perfectly to Japanese culture, which is a must when you are learning something.

Let’s move to the didactic part of the cards. You will find a kanji (are the adopted logographic Chinese characters [hanzi] that are used in the modern Japanese writing system along with hiragana and katakana.) in the middle of the card. Above is the furigana (how it is pronounced in Japanese.) Below the kanji we find the English meaning for the word and the attack modifier, in this case we have 1D6 plus you Charisma stat. To the right is the type of the action card (Summon in this card.) Finally, to the left we find the level of the card (from 1 to 5.)

To be able to read the furigana, each player will receive a character sheet with the Kana (Japanese alphabet.) This method will help you to improve your kana reading skills, so you will be able to understand your spells at the same time you are learning naturally.

Regarding the level of the spells, as you level up, more complex cards will be there. “For example at level 1 you might have the Spell card "Fire" (火- Pronounced HI), as you level up and become more familiar with the language the level 2 card will become "Fire ball" (火玉 - Pronounced HIDAMA).”

Art for the “Fire” card

This system aims to improve your skills in pronunciation of kana and kanji, your vocabulary and you will be familiar with the mechanics of this language. In the future, a grammar update will be developed to improve that extra skill.

RACES

In this game we find 6 races: Elf, Human, Dark Elf, Giant, Dwarf and Halfling.

Each race has its own stat modifiers, so depending on your race you will deal more damage with an attack or another.

GAMEPLAY

Each player draws 5 cards. They can interact with storyline or attack with the cards provided. Whenever a card is used it must be replenished. You can use one spell or chain different ones. For example, you need water and you have the water card, you use it or you have fire and ice cards and you chain them to get water. If the GM allows those combinations you can use them, remember one thing, the longer the chain is, the more loot you receive!

Card levels will depend on the difficulty of the word. When a campaign is completed, GM has to think if he/she has to add more cards.

As soon as we have a gameplay we will include it here.

CONCLUSION

To learn a language while playing a Role-Playing Game is an attractive idea. We think it can help you a lot taking into consideration that this idea can become an unlimited world (the only limit is the language itself, so, yeah, “unlimited”.) As this project is still young, we can “only” say we are interested in knowing more about this game and that the idea is sooooo marvelous!

We would appreciate so much your support! We will upload more reviews! www.facebook.com/pages/CF-Games/292604300894670
