HeroQuest was the product of a strategic partnership between Milton Bradley and Games Workshop in 1989, and the subject of much nostalgic passion for anyone whose childhood was touched by it.While HeroQuest lives on today in Games Workshop's WarhammerQuest line, the simplicity and nostalgic familiarity of the original makes WHQ games no comparison to a true remake. There was at least one attempt to reboot HeroQuest via Kickstarter by those who had nothing to do with the creation of the original and had no claim to the rights.Further complicating matters, while Games Workshop had allowed their HeroQuest trademark to elapse, Greg Stafford picked it up as the title for his tabletop RPG. Greg passed in 2018, and all of Greg's former IP are now owned by Moon Design Publications. Moon Design had previously taken legal action on Greg's behalf to block a HeroQuest board game to protect their IP rights. What's changed? I believe Moon Design and Restoration have made an agreement. Earlier this year, HeroQuest RPG was renamed to QuestWorlds. It was believed that they would retain the HeroQuest title for the new edition of their sister product "HeroQuest: Glorantha," but Moon Design also registered the name Hero Wars in April, which is what Greg named his RPG before claiming the HeroQuest trademark.
