https://teamcovenant.com/product/ashes-rise-phoenixborn-1-5-reborn-product-subscription"We fell in love with Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn when it first released in 2015, supporting it via our Ashes Weekend event with artist Fernanda Suarez and designer Isaac Vega, a product subscription, one of our favorite token lines – Arcane Tokens, and even an off-the-cuff learn to play video with Rodney of Watch It Played. The game ultimately met an untimely end due primarily to understandable production issues caused by a string of Plaid Hat corporate acquisitions – first by F2Z, and then Asmodee.
But a system with this much potential, and assets this beautiful, deserves a second chance.
We’ve partnered with Plaid Hat in an effort to bring it back as our first PLAYER-DRIVEN-PRODUCTION™ subscription. The concept is simple – if enough people subscribe, Ashes 1.5 will officially go into print and the 1.5 Upgrade Pack will go out as the first Ashes 1.5 subscription shipment. This is a pack of cards consisting of rebalanced, redesigned, and reprinted Ashes 1.0 cards (~30% of the card pool). We spoke with lead developer, Nick Conley, about his approach and were overwhelming encouraged by his vision for the reboot and the future of the game.
If 1.5 gets off the ground, quarterly expansions will continue being produced as long as the subscriber count stays over the production threshold. These releases will consist of two Phoenixborn expansions, packaged together, for $29.95.
It’s that simple. As long as there are enough subscribers, the game will continue being printed – at only $30 every few months to stay current
Colby has been determined to get Ashes back into production – not because it is especially lucrative but because it’s the kind of game everyone at Plaid Hat is passionate about making and supporting. The “minimum viable audience” model is not a good fit for the traditional three-tier system, and Kickstarting doesn’t make sense for an expandable game like this, so, a few conversations later, here we are.
